FAQ - Quarantine on and off Campus
You have to report to your Department/ Office immediately and complete the Online COVID-19 Related Report Form. If you are a supervisor and learn of any staff or student under your supervision being under a quarantine order, you should alert HSEO and remind the member concerned to complete the same online report form.
If a campus resident is waiting to be admitted to hospital as a confirmed COVID-19 case, or to a quarantine center as a close contact of a confirmed case, he/she will be temporarily housed for self-quarantine. Any staff resident, his/her family member or helper who is being tested for COVID-19 will be asked to undertake self-quarantine in his/her residence until the situation is resolved.
Quarantine, whether compulsory home quarantine or self-quarantine, requires the individuals to stay in their residential units at all times. All staff, family members and helpers currently residing on campus should undergo home quarantine in their own residential unit. Students with a University hostel place should undertake home quarantine off-campus but NOT use their University hostel for home quarantine. They may undertake home quarantine at non-designated hotels*. Please click this SHRLO webpage to see the latest FAQ on student housing arrangement.
Existing staff members with on-campus accommodation should undertake home quarantine at his/her staff quarter.
New staff members who have on-campus accommodation may also find it difficult to undergo home quarantine in their quarter unit without appliances and supplies. They may undertake undertake quarantine or home isolation at non-designated hotels*.
*Note: The University has agreed discounted rates for quarantine for inbound travellers from the Mainland China and Macau at non-designated hotels (see this list).
The arrangement of using University-managed off-campus hotel rooms at Nina Hotel Island South (NHIS) for compulsory quarantine purpose is only for non-local students without a home base in Hong Kong, or for cases under exceptional circumstances. Local students with their home base in Hong Kong should undergo self-quarantine at home or follow the specified conditions imposed by the Hong Kong Government on inbound travelers who are from or have visited specified high risk places or any country outside China. If you live on campus, and anyone in your household is undergoing compulsory quarantine, you and others in the household should stay in the residence as far as possible, and the staff member should work from home until the quarantine period has expired. Staff members living off campus in the same situation are also required to work from home. You should report the status to your Department or Unit Head and complete the Online COVID-19 Related Report Form as soon as possible.
You will most likely be identified as a close contact of the confirmed case. Report it to your Department/Office if you have been informed by officers of Department of Health that you are a close contact. Follow the instructions given by the officer to stay at home or quarantine centers for compulsory quarantine and complete the Online COVID-19 Related Report Form as soon as possible.
